Ulysses Missa

Ulysses Missa is an a cappella musical adaptation of James Joyce’s Ulysses that subverts the structure of a Catholic Latin High Mass. Using the form of the Mass, it tells the story of Leopold Bloom as he confronts the inevitability of his wife, Molly’s, upcoming affair with Blazes Boylan. Celebrate one of the greatest works of modernist literature in a ritual of sirens, prostitutes, a cyclops, the ghost of King Hamlet, and bullying barmaids.

Sarah began writing Ulysses Missa during the Covid-19 Pandemic after an obsessive reading of James Joyce's epic novel. It was first developed for the NY Theatre Festival in 2022 where it was nominated for Best Score. After a brief hiatus, it won a coveted position in The Center at West Park's Evolution Festival with a single performance directed by Emily Bubeck. The Center at West Park's unique location was ideal for Ulysses Missa as it is a beautifully preserved church transformed into a theater space. Ulysses Missa is looking for its next development opportunity.
