Emerging tells the story of a mother and daughter on the run visiting each brood of periodical cicadas for 17 years. Sarah and Vera (a mother/daughter duo) began developing the work in 2025 inspired by their intense familial bond and Sarah's lifelong love for cicadas.

From the creative team that brought you Faustine and Ulysses Missa, comes a new immersive, duet operetta on illness, death, time, and cults. Two twin sopranos, one pianist, and a small audience trapped in a single room. Sarah and Lydia are quarantined sisters with a unique outlook on death, and they intend to get you sick. This new work, inspired by the writings of Kierkegaard and Virginia Woolf and the music of Messiaen, is in early stages of development. We have a grant to workshop some of the music at Empire Arts Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota in March 2026, but following that, we are looking for an opportunity to workshop some of the story and audience immersive elements.
